Scholarship recipients
Piotr Olesz
Piotr Olesz was born in Gdańsk in 2006. From an early age, he was distinguished by his keen musical sensitivity and excellent hearing, which developed into an interest in classical music, including its performance aspects.
From 2013, he attended the cello class of Professor Jadwiga Ewald at the General Primary and Secondary Music School in Gdańsk. In 2021, he transferred to the Z. Brzewski General Secondary Music School in Warsaw, continuing his studies in the classes of Professor Macin Zdunik, Professor Stanisław Firlej (until 2024), and Professor Mateusz Szmyt. He is currently a first-year student in the class of Professor Peter Bruns at the Hochschüle für Musik und Theater in Leipzig.
Since the age of 8, he has participated in numerous music competitions, achieving top positions. His most notable achievements include the Grand Prix at the 6th National Competition of Musical Individualities ATMA 2022 in Zakopane, first place at the 16th Kazimierz Wiłkomirski Youth International Cello Competition in Poznań, and the title of finalist at the 1st International Cello Competition in Graz (2020). In 2024, he was a semi-finalist at the 12th International W. Lutosławski Cello Competition in Warsaw and a finalist in the "Young Musician of the Year" competition organized by the National Institute of Music and Dance and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
He has performed in prestigious venues such as the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, the Witold Lutosławski Studio of Polish Radio S1, the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, and the Gewandhaus in Leipzig. He has performed with orchestras such as Iuventus, the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Wratislava Chamber Orchestra. He is a member of the Youth Festival Orchestra in Verbier (2022 and 2023) and the Penderecki Youth Orchestra.
He honed his skills under the guidance of, among others, Arto Noras, Danjulo Ishizaka, Marc Coppey, Norman Fisher, Anastasia Kobekina and Kazimierz Michalik at international master classes.
He has received several scholarships: twice from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, and once from the "Young Poland 2023" scholarship program. In 2026, he was awarded a scholarship from the "Future Classic" scholarship program.
